Diwali is a festival of lights and also final day of the Hindu calender. It is a day to celebrate good over evil. Traditionally, Diwali is celebrated by lighting divas in homes and temples, creating Rangoli (patterns made using colored powder) and lighting fireworks. The light of the Divas symbolizes eradication of darkness. Day following Diwali is the first day of New Year. It is celebrated by first offering variety of food to the Lord.
Disciples of Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan, Chicago gathered to celebrate this auspicious occasion starting with Chopda Poojan (sanctifying accounting books), offering a grand annakut, offering devotion to Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa by praying and singing Kirtans.
Acharya Shree Jitendriyapriyadasji Swamiji Maharaj is the current spiritual leader of Maninagar Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan. He is the heir to Acharya Shree Purushottampriyadasji Swamishree Maharaj, and sixth in the lineage of ascetic Acharyas, which descends directly from Lord Shree Swaminarayan.
