On Monday, July 27, 2015, the Shree Swaminarayan Temple - Secaucus, NJ mourned the passing of former Indian President, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, through a candlelight vigil. The ceremony was inspired by His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree Purushottampriyadasji Maharaj and was held in the presence of Acharya Swamishree, eminent sants, and numerous disciples.
Acharya Swamishree has met Dr. Kalam on numerous occasions; most recently, Acharya Swamishree presented him with gold-embossed portrait and a hand-engraved trophy to honor the work he has done for India. Dr. Kalam, an esteemed scientist and the eleventh president of India, was commonly known as the “people’s president” and led India’s space and missile initiatives.
Acharya Swamishree, sants, and disciples performed poojan (prayers) and chanted holy mantras to pray that the merciful Lord Shree Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa bestows divine, eternal happiness upon him.
