One of the key festivals in the calendar is the Gurupoonam Celebrations, which is the day that disciples pay homage to their guru. It is the guru who eliminates darkness and guides a disciple towards spirituality and the truth. We, at Shree Swaminarayan Gadi, are fortunate to have been able to be guided by the truly great Gurudev, Jeevanpran Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa and Acharya Swamishree Maharaj.

On the day of Gurupoonam, Ashadh Sud Poonam, Tuesday 3 July 2012, Sants and disciples gathered at Shree Swaminarayan Mandir. Gurudev Jeevanpran Swamibapa was carried on a palanquin from the Mandir to the Auditorium, with the accompaniment of dance and music. Senior Sadguru Sants performed poojan to Jeevanpran Swamibapa, and adorned Him with a golden moogat. After performing aarti, a letter of blessings from Acharya Swamishree Maharaj, who is currently presiding in America, was read to the assembly. Young disciples performed a devotional dance, and speeches were given by senior Sants and disciples, to explain the significance of this day, and the glory of our beloved Gurudev.
