The Uttrayan festival, also known as Makar Sankranti, was celebrated on 14 January 2011 in Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Maninagar.
This is the day when the Sun starts to travel in the Uttar - Northerly direction. It also marks the decline of the winter season and the end of Dhanurmas.
In Gujarat, as the day is commonly known as the Kite Festival, the sants had decorated the inner sanctum of the Mandir with beautifully coloured kites. As per tradition, the prasad of undhiyu and jalebi were given to all the disciples. It is also the custom for disciples to give gifts to the Lord.
Acharya Shree Jitendriyapriyadasji Swamiji Maharaj is the current spiritual leader of Maninagar Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan. He is the heir to Acharya Shree Purushottampriyadasji Swamishree Maharaj, and sixth in the lineage of ascetic Acharyas, which descends directly from Lord Shree Swaminarayan.
