The charming village of Kheda, on the banks of the Vatrak River, was the sacred site where Gurudev Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa manifested upon the Earth in 1907 AD. Jeevanpran Shree Abji Bapashree visited this village and stayed on the river banks with a group of 600 sants and disciples. Muljibhai Tulsidasbhai Patel and his wife Ichhaba served Bapashree and the entire group with milk and food. They prayed to Bapashree to visit their home. Prior to this, Muljibhai’s grandfather Nagardasbhai had prayed to Lord Shree Swaminarayan to visit Kheda. Both gave the same answer; ‘Not now! When the time is right, I shall come in a very special way.’
According to the words professed by Lord Shree Swaminarayan and subsequently by Jeevanpran Shree Abji Bapashree, they manifested at the home of Muljibhai Patel in Kheda, in the form of Gurudev Jeevanpran Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa.
Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kheda
Gurudev Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa manifested in a small hut on the banks of the river Vatrak in Kheda. The exact plot was in a location known as Vav-varu Fariyu – the square that had a step-well. Under the auspices of Maninagar Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan, this plot of land was purchased in the late 1980’s and by the inspiration of Acharya Swamishree Maharaj, a magnificent Mandir was built at the exact location of Gurudev Swamibapa’s manifestation. Acharya Swamishree Maharaj performed the grand opening of this Mandir in 1990.
Since then, Pragatya-dham Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kheda has become a sacred place of pilgrimage for thousands of disciples. Every Poonam, hundreds travel from Ahmedabad to Kheda by foot for darshan of Lord Shree Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa.
