The sacred Hamisar Lake is situated in the centre of Bhuj. This man-made lake, which is over 450 years old and spans over 28 acres, was built by Rao Hamir, the founder of Bhuj. Lord Shree Swaminarayan has bathed in the lake on numerous occasions, and therefore, it has become a site of pilgrimage for disciples.
On Monday 16 September 2013, Jal-jilani (Parivartini) ekadashi, Acharya Swamishree Maharaj visited Hamisar Lake and held prayers for relief from drought for all the people of Kutch and Gujarat. Hinduism places a great significance on performing poojan to the Lord on this sacred day. Accordingly, Acharya Swamishree Maharaj performed poojan to Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa at the centre of Hamisar Lake.
Traditionally, the day is celebrated by placing a Murti of the Lord on a boat, and floating Him on water. This ceremony was performed in Bhuj Mandir, Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Darbar Gadh Chowk during the morning of this sacred day of fasting and worship.
