Maninagar Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sanstha has sent essential relief parcels to the stricken survivors of the recent floods in the Uttarakhand State of India. This follows a special vigil held in the Sanstha’s London Temple, while His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree is presiding there, to pray for the welfare of those affected.
Acharya Swamishree is renowned for His decisive actions in providing aid and relief to disaster-struck zones – recent examples have included personally distributing aid after the Gujarat Earthquake and sending immediate relief as well as later rebuilding funds to the afflicted regions following the South Asian Tsunami.
Torrential rainfall during the early monsoon season, believed to be the heaviest in 80 years, caused devastation in Uttarakhand as thousands of tourists were in the region on a pilgrimage. The resulting military evacuation is thought to be the world’s largest ever air rescue operation, giving a sense of the scale of devastation.
150 packages, containing thousands of essential survival items including tents, blankets, utensils, kitchen items, food, water, etc, were packed at Maninagar Mandir by Sants and disciples – the items had an estimated value of 500000 Rs. The items will be delivered personally by the Sanstha to ensure they reach those most in need, and are expected to arrive in the area within a matter of days.
