From 16 to 18 April 2008, Acharya Swamishree led a large group of over 350 sants and disciples on a 3 day Shibir (convention), held in Matheran.

Matheran is a Hill Station approximately 100 km away from Mumbai. No motor vehicles are permitted on this outstandingly picturesque, eco-friendly region of India. It is located at a height of 2635 ft above sea level, and is the tiniest Hill Station in the world, the only pedestrian Hill Station in Asia, and only one of two eco-sensitive Hill Stations in India. It is said that the natural habitat of Matheran is like going back 200 years.

On 16 April 2008, Acharya Swamishree and the group of sants and disciples traveled from Mumbai to the village of Neral, at the foot of Matheran, where a small train took everyone up to the Hill Station. At the station, the owners of Regal Hotel, of Mohanlal Mithaiwala fame, welcomed Acharya Swamishree. A procession was held from the station to the place where Acharya Swamishree and the sants were to remain during their stay in Matheran.

During the evening, Acharya Swamishree performed the sandhya aarti and evening prayers in the vast grounds of Regal Hotel. A concert of devotional songs was performed by Mumbai’s famous playback singer, Shree Sanjay Omkar and his group, and also Swamibapa’s talented sants.

On 17 April 2008, a tour of the dense jungles and hills of Matheran was held on horseback. A pure white horse had the privilege of carrying Acharya Swamishree. A convoy of 72 horses carried the sants, and another 150 horses carried disciples. There are various stories of when Lord Shree Swaminarayan and large groups of Kathi disciples used to travel from village to village on horseback. The scene witnessed today by all reminded everyone of what it must have been like to travel with Lord Shree Swaminarayan nearly 200 years ago.

During the late afternoon, a special event was held in the swimming pool, when Shree Harikrishna Maharaj was ceremonially bathed with the five nectars. Acharya Swamishree then sprinkled the consecrated nectar and water over all the sants and disciples.

After the evening sandhya aarti ceremonies had concluded, Acharya Swamishree bestowed divine blessings to everyone, in which He stated the purpose of this 3 day Shibir – to attain spiritual peace and harmony – with oneself, each other, and the environment.

On this occasion, Acharya Swamishree blessed the proprietors of the Regal Hotel, Shree Vinodbhai Sharma, Shree Jagdishbhai Sharma, Shree Paragbhai Sharma. These three individuals had been humbly requesting Acharya Swamishree to visit Matheran and bless them for several years. Accepting their prayers, Acharya Swamishree took 3 days out of His schedule and held the Shibir in Matheran.

On 18 April, Acharya Swamishree and the group of sants and disciples visited the various sites of outstanding natural beauty in Matheran and then returned to Mumbai during the afternoon.
