India Republic Day Celebrations Held in Kheda  


Friday 26 January 2007 was India’s 58th Republic Day. To celebrate this occasion, His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree held a grand procession of peace and unity in Kheda, the holy city that Jeevanpran Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa chose to manifest upon this Earth.

At 9 am, Acharya Swamishree presided amongst a republic day flag raising ceremony in the grounds of Shree Swaminarayan Temple Maninagar. A rally of 580 motorcyclists then departed from Maninagar and headed for Kheda. At the same time, a rally of 580 motorcyclists departed from Bavla towards Kheda. By the time both convoys reached Kheda, Acharya Swamishree had also arrived.

At the start of the town, a new, grand gateway to Kheda has been built by Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan. Acharya Swamishree performed the official opening of this gateway, named ‘Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Pragatya (manifestation) Dham (abode) Kheda Pravesh-dwar (gateway)’ and presented it to the town municipality.

A grand procession to promote world peace, compassion, understanding and tolerance, was then held through the entire town to the temple forecourt. Jeevanpran Swamibapa and Acharya Swamishree presided on the backs of elephants and gave darshan to all the townsfolk.

At the temple, leading ministers were honoured by Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan, including Agriculture Minister, Shree Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Farming Minister Shree Dilipbhai Thakor, Collector Shree R R Varsani, District Leader Shree Chaudhary, D.S.P. Shree D J Patel, Sector Leader Shree Bhavin Pandya, President of the District Shree Ghanshyambhai Gandhi and Architect Shree Ivdatbhai Sompura.

During the evening, a gala performance of patriotic dance, music and singing was performed by the students of Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Kala (arts) Academy and young disciples from Kheda, in the grounds of H N D Parekh High School. Over 25,000 people from the entire town and surrounding villages were present to see the procession and evening music performances.
