Inspirator: His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree Purushottampriyadasji Maharaj
Gurupoornima Celebrations

The auspicious Gurupoornima festival was celebrated in the divine presence of Acharya Swamishree on Saturday 23rd July 2005, at Shree Swaminarayan Temple New Jersey.

The devotees, who had gathered from all parts of the USA, including many of who had come from abroad, were given the opportunity of offering poojan to Gurudev Jeevanpran Swamibapa.

On this occasion, Acharya Swamishree blessed the congregation;

  • This special day is dedicated to offering adoration to one’s spiritual teacher – Guru.

  • We have been blessed by the Lord for being given the opportunity to offer our worship to the true Guru – the one who leads all, to eternal enlightenment.

  • Just as a craftsman uses his small mallet to beat a copper sheet into a water utensil, a true Guru imparts spiritual knowledge to mould devotees, and transforms them into being virtuous souls; makes them become the same form as God – Purushottam-roop. By the mercy of the supreme Lord, we have attained such a true Guru, Jeevanpran Swamibapa.

  • On one’s own, very little can be achieved. A small child may wish to eat a fruit that is growing on a tree; however, he is too short to pick it. So his father lifts him up to the fruit, and he is easily able to grab the fruit and enjoy its sweetness. Similarly, the ecstasy of the Lord is unattainable without the assistance of a true Guru. He will lead a person to greater and greater heights.

  • Once, Lord Swaminarayan was travelling from Gadhpur to Vadtal. He came across a lake, so He decided to go for a bathe. As He got off the mare, Manki, the heel of His shoe dug into the ground and pulled away a tuft of grass. Due to its encounter with the Lord, the soul within that tuft of grass was reborn in the body of a devotee, called Vira. From the age of 16, Lord Swaminarayan kept Vira with Him always. He looked out for Vira and took great care of Vira. Once, Muktanand Swami asked, ‘what great deed has Vira performed in a previous life, for you to be so caring for him?’ Lord Swaminarayan replied, ‘he has not performed any great deed. His only fortune was that he came across the heel of My foot, and I looked down at him.’ Tears of joy rolled from Muktanand Swami’s eyes as he heard these words. All he could say was, ‘Lord, You mercy is truly boundless.’

  • Such a merciful Lord has kept us all with Him and granted us all the divine shelter of Shree Swaminarayan Gadi. We too must have been struck by the heel of the Lord’s divine foot. As a result, we are experiencing the divine bliss of the supreme Lord.
