HDH Acharya Swamishree's Campaign for World Peace

On the weekend of Saturday 13th July and Sunday 14th July a two day programme, 'Shanti Satra', to promote world peace was held in the presence of HDH Acharya Swamishree at Shree Swaminarayan Mandir, Golders Green.

Saturday's events included parayan vachan, HDH Acharya Swamishree's Divine arshirwad, and two classical Indian dance performances. On this day, two records were set for Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan. The first record set was the quantity of Samooh Parayan (scripture recitals). The initial target of 60 parayan from the younger devotees was vastly surpassed. In total, 125 parayan were performed from the children of the sanstha, the largest number during any one occasion. In addition, a record for the total number of parayan was also broken, with the final figure of 570 parayan for the event.

On Sunday afternoon, a Shanti Yatra started from Shree Swaminarayan Mandir, Golders Green and proceeded along Finchley Road onto Golders Green Road, and through the streets of the town. Prior to the commencement of the Yatra, HDH Acharya Swamishree released twelve white doves of peace and hundreds of coloured balloons into the summer’s sky. HDH Acharya Swamishree was seated upon a beautifully adorned and ornate chariot, designed and decorated by the Santo and devotees of the Mandir. Santo and devotees pulled the chariot the length of the yatra, taking turns to perform this seva. Devotees carried gifts, fruits and ornaments for Lord Swaminarayan Swamibapa; they also performed dances, played the dhol, and the female devotees carried hamaya (decorative floral vases carried upon the head) and sang kirtans.

On returning to the temple, HDH Acharya Swamishree randomly selected three names from the 125 young devotees who partook in the parayan. These extremely fortunate devotees were given the opportunity to perform the traditional welcoming ceremony on this auspicious occasion.

His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree was led into the temple by Shree Muktajeevan Pipe Band. A salute was performed to Lord Swaminarayan Swamibapa and HDH Acharya Swamishree. The sixty children, who carried gifts during the yatra, offered these to Lord Swaminarayan Swamibapa; the Santo presented 60 gold flowers to Lord Swaminarayan Swamibapa; and a 120ft haar (garland) of fresh flowers was presented to HDH Acharya Swamishree.

In front of the Singhasan, sixty intricately decorated heart shaped cakes of various sizes were mounted on stands, placed together in the shape of a heart. As HDH Acharya Swamishree cut the cakes, fireworks lit up the beautiful temple with fountains of light and flame flares. Following this spectacle, Santo performed kirtan and the young devotees performed classical dances to attain the blessing of Lord Swaminarayan Swamibapa.

For the main event of the evening, HDH Acharya Swamishree was adorned with garments created out of chandan (a sandalwood paste). The Santo had painstakingly crafted these garments from this auspicious material for HDH Acharya Swamishree. Once adorned, HDH Acharya Swamishree then lovingly blessed all the Santo and devotees by individually pasting everyone's faces with prasadi chandan.

To complete the festivities of the day, the santo and devotees played Raas to the accompaniment of Shree Muktajeevan Orchestra and kirtan performed by the Santo. HDH Acharya Swamishree was seated on a rotating hindola (swing) decorated with fresh yellow and white fragrant flowers, and blessed the sabha with his divine darshan.
