The last full moon (poonam) of the Hindu calendar, Aso Sud Poonam, is referred to as Sharad Poonam. It is said that the moon on this night is extra bright and clear. In India, the Sharad Poonam festival is celebrated with food, music, and dance under the magnificent moonlight. Silver ornament displays are often created to reflect the moonlight all around and provide a peaceful setting for the night’s festivities.
Disciples of Shree Swaminarayan Temple New Jersey celebrated the Sharad Poonam festival on Saturday, October 24th, 2010. Lord Shree Swaminarayan provided His divine darshan throughout the night whilst seated under a handmade hut. Female disciples of all ages performed specially-prepared raas dances for the occasion. Disciples danced the night away to kirtans and music performed by other disciples to praise Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa. Prasad was served to all who were present.
