Diwali Mela - Nairobi 2023

Diwali is a time of year when people come together and share the joy in their lives. They put aside any differences and work towards fostering a sense of community all around them.

Diwali Melas help people to celebrate the popular ‘Festival of Lights’ with gaiety and enthusiasm within their own community. This fiesta serves a very important role as it helps to bring the community together and share the greetings of the festival and is a means to bond with cultural roots and acquaint children to the rich Indian culture and heritage. Diwali Melas are also a means to let people celebrate the joyous festival of Diwali in the best of spirits and enhance the feeling of harmony and brotherhood in the society. Taking this into account and as part of the Diwali festivities, Maninagar Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan, Shree Swaminarayan Mandir – Nairobi organised a Diwali Mela on 11th November 2023 for the entire public of Nairobi.

The Mela commenced at 3.30pm with Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa Gracing the Mela Area and consecrating all the Divine prasad. At 4:00pm, The Hindu Council of Kenya along side committee members of Shree Swaminarayan Mandir-Nairobi, officially inaugurated the Diwali Mela by performing a Deep Pragatya (Lighting of the wicks).

A Magnificent Exhibition showcasing a brief history of Maninagar Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan and Shree Swaminarayan Mandir - Nairobi was presented in the temple hall. Games and other fun-filled activities for children and grownups as well as stalls of henna painting on palms, face painting, photo booths were undoubtedly a part of the Mela to help people enjoy the spirit of India.

Everyone was treated to a vast variety of Delicious Mouthwatering Indian snacks, sweets, savouries, desserts, drinks freshly prepared by our Devotees. Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Pipeband and Young Devotees showcased their Magnificent talent and their performances brought smiles to the faces of the crowds.

It was truly a Magnificent and Entertaining Evening.
