Uttarayan 2015

Whenever Uttarayan rolls around yearly on the 14th of January, the skies are filled with vibrant colors, shapes and sizes of kites. Uttarayan is also known as Makar Sankranti or Tilsankranti and is grandly celebrated in Gujurat.

Devotess in Nairobi gathered to celebrate this auspicious festival too. The celebrations commenced by Sandhya Aarti and niyums, followed by kirtan bhaktiand Acharya Swamishree's Divine Ashirwad. Acharya Swamishree elaborated the meaning and belief behind this festival of kites.

It is believed that you get a thousand times more blessings if you offer (donate) just a portion. Ladoos made with jaggery and sesame are a tradition to be consumed on this day, hence also called Til (sesame) Sankranti. Prasad was served to all courtesy of the sponsers.
