Tribute to Nelson Mandela
On behalf of Maninagar Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan, His Divine Holiness Acharya Purushottampriyadasji Swamishree Maharaj expressed deep and heartfelt condolence on the death of anti apartheid icon and father of modern South Africa, Nelson Mandela.
On 5 th December 2013, the former South African President passed away aged 95 after ailing from a prolonged lung infection at his Johannesburg home.
His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree, Sant Mandal and hundreds of devotees gathered at Swamibapa Temple in Nairobi to hold prayers for the departed soul. He described Nelson Mandela as a tireless and benevolent leader who worked for the common good.
Acharya Swamishree, in his condolence, message said that Nelson Mandela, a true “Gandhian” and the first African President of South Africa who fought Apartheid, spent 27 years in prison and led his country to democracy. He had a vision of society in which none is exploited, oppressed or dispossessed by another.
Lord Swaminarayan has stated in the Shikshapatri in Shlok 157 “…They should regard each of their subjects as their own children and take care of them accordingly. Religion (morality) should be established and maintained throughout their kingdom.” Nelson Mandela was a true example of such a leader.
May The Supreme Lord Swaminarayan rest his soul in eternal peace.
