Diwali and New Year Celebrations 2012
Devotees of SSSS Mandal Nairobi celebrated Diwali on 13 th November and the New Year ( Samvat 2069) on 14 th November 2012.
On Diwali day also known as “The Festival of Light”, people decorate their homes with candles and colourful lights. They also make designs (rangoli) at their doorsteps using coloured powders. The devotees of Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan assume the temple to be their home, so they perform all these activities at the temple. The temple in Nairobi was decorated with bright lights, rangoli, various flower designs and candles which were made by the devotees at the temple.
On Diwali day, devotees performed meditation and Muktajeevan Swamibapa continuously focused their attention to the Murti of Lord Swaminarayan by singing and explaining the meaning of the kirtan “Jay Jay Divya Murti Ghanshyam, Tamne anant pranaam”. Business owners performed ‘Chopda Poojan' to their books of accounts.
The devotees prepared all types of food items- bhakshya, bhojya, lehya, chosya and cooked a variety of Indian dishes and placed them at the lotus feet of Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa in form of Annkut. Hindus from all over Nairobi flocked at Swamibapa Temple for the darshan of Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa and every one was blessed with Annkut prasad.
