Ashad Sud Poonam, Friday 18th July 2008, was celebrated in Nairobi in commemoration of our beloved Gurudev Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa.
Devotees gathered in large numbers to pay homage to Gurudev Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa who has explained us the true meaning of Guru.
Gu – meaning darkness
RU – meaning light.
Thus, he who enlightens the ignorant i.e. shines light upon those in darkness is called a GURU.
Knowledge cannot be attained without a Guru and thus Lord Swaminarayan showed us the importance of a Guru by taking Shree Ramanand Swami as His Guru.
Today Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa was dressed in yellow garments. He had a golden crown on His head and flower garlands hung around His neck.
The programme started in the evening with the Divine blessings of Jeevanpran Swamibapa. The evening niyams of Sandhya Aarti followed from 7.00 to 7.30pm. Next in the sequence was Kirtan Bhakti (Gurupoornima Kirtans) for half an hour. The Divine Murti of Jeevanpran Swamibapa adorned in yellow flower garments was placed in front of the congregation. Each devotee had an opportunity to perform poojan and aarti to Gurudev Jeevanpran Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa.
The divine Ashirvad letter from Param Pujya Acharya Shree Purushottampriyadasji Swami Maharaj was read in front of the congregation. The letter stressed the importance of a true Guru who leads ignorant souls to the supreme bliss of eternal happiness. The celebrations concluded with the Divine Ashirvad of Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa. Delicious, finger licking, Prasad was distributed to all those who took part in this auspicious celebration.
