Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury held a mass yoga session on Wednesday 21st June 2023 to celebrate International Yoga Day. This marked the 8th year of this worldwide celebration since its inception in 2015 by Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi.

Over 100 aspiring yogis, young and old, male and female, gathered in Purushottam Mahal for the 90 minute guided breathing and meditation asana practice. 30 participants engaged in the modified chair yoga poses. These modifications make yoga accessible to those who cannot stand, lack the mobility to move easily from standing to seated to supine positions.

Yoga has many benefits and regular practicing of yoga can improve flexibility, strength, balance, focus, reduce stress and anxiety and also improve the quality of sleep. Yoga is a way of life that can be practiced by anyone, no matter age or ability.

Yoga is especially dear to the disciples of Shree Swaminarayan Gadi London, not least because Prem Murti Acharya Swamishree Maharaj, an avid practitioner of yoga, inspired his disciples of all ages to adopt the practice and reap the benefits of a more stable, stronger and balanced life.

“A person’s good physical and mental health is regarded as being his wealth, he should look after that fortune”

Acharya Swamishree Maharaj

Yoga is now a regular part of many disciples' lives, with multiple sessions held each week at the Mandir for the wide benefit to the community.
