The start of the spring season in India – Vasant Panchmi – also marks the anniversary of the Supreme Lord Shree Swaminarayan gifting the world with His scripture of commandments, the Shikshaptari.

On Thursday 30th January 2020, every Shree Swaminarayan Mandir around the world celebrated the 194th anniversary since the Shikshapatri’s publication. Disciples at Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury gathered to hold a communal recital of the scripture, which is the essence of the ancient Hindu scriptures that the Lord synopsised into 212 verses of knowledge and advice.

The Lord has advised that for anyone to remain happy in this life and the next, they must strictly abide by the rules set out in the Shikshapatri. Beyond the Swaminarayan Faith and beyond even wider Hinduism, the Shikshapatri is, as stated by the Lord Himself, for the benefit of all souls, and so it provides a framework for anyone and everyone to live a moral, just and contented life.
