Although IYD is a global campaign instigated by the Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, through the United Nations, the Mandir’s events each year are inspired by Acharya Swamishree Maharaj. An avid practitioner of Yoga Himself, in explaining the full benefits of Yoga, Acharya Swamishree Maharaj states, “In order to succeed in life, your body and mind need to be healthy and pure…Controlling the senses and mind is an art”. By holding events such as today, the Mandir hopes to Inspire the Community to become lifelong students of Yoga.
Young and old alike – some as young as five – heard about the many benefits of Yoga as the instructor took them through a journey of physical and mental exercises, postures and routines. He explained that Yoga was complementary to traditional or western medicine, contributing to lowering of blood pressure and cholesterol, relieving muscular and skeletal pains, aiding the body’s natural healing and recovery processes form illness and injury, and proving beneficial to a wide range of mental, physical and emotional problems.
Many of the students from the Mandir’s own Yoga classes demonstrated their prowess on the stage to aid today’s session, striking complex postures, or Aasans, to perfection. To enquire about the Yoga classes held at the Mandir, email London@SwaminarayanGadi.com.
