Our very own Jaz Rabadia has been honoured for her services to sustainability and diversity in the STEM sector (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) with an MBE in today’s announced New Year’s honours list.
Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury is the world’s first eco-mandir, inspired by Acharya Swamishree Maharaj with the ethos, “If we sustain the earth, only then will it sustain us.” Jaz has made a successful career based on this Ashirwad and she also played a role in ensuring the sustainability performance of the Mandir.
Currently working in industry at Starbucks as energy manager, Jaz volunteers much of her time to break down the stigma for females and ethnic minorities to study and take up a career within the STEM sector. She works tirelessly as an advocate to increase understanding and encourage others to take up the many exciting STEM-related career opportunities out there. She also contributes to the Mandir by organising sports activities, blood drives and cultural events.
In Acharya Swamishree Maharaj Ashirwad on 31st Dec - Nairobi 2015
"It's a matter of great pride to Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan that one of Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa's children has received such a prestigious honour." Acharya Swamishree Maharaj
In reaction to receiving the honour, Jaz said,
“This is such an unexpected and humbling surprise. It's great to be recognised in this way. Throughout my academic achievements and various jobs, the one constant in my life has been the community and my extended family at Kingsbury Mandir. The life skills I have picked up there through the various activities I am involved in have given me confidence and grounding in life. Acharya Swamishree Maharaj explains if we sustain the earth only then will it sustain us. That has been the philosophy of my work in energy and I am indebted to the Mandir for all it has done for me.”
