As part of the Sewa Day on the 4th of October 2015, Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury collected over 4000 food item to donate to a local charity, helping to alleviate the heartaches of homelessness.
A number of our community stood outside the local Sainsbury’s supermarket in Hendon, collecting donations from the generous British public. Acharya Swamishree Maharaj teaches us, “The Lord states that service (sewa) is a primary duty; sewa to society must be our mantra”. Inspired by that philosophy, members of our community were hugely successful in not only collecting vital food supplies, but also in raising the profile of St Mungo's Broadway - a fantastic London charity that helps people recover from the issues that create homelessness. They provide a bed and support to more than 2,500 people a night who are either homeless or at risk, and work to prevent homelessness, helping about 25,000 people a year.
Acharya Shree Jitendriyapriyadasji Swamiji Maharaj is the current spiritual leader of Maninagar Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan. He is the heir to Acharya Shree Purushottampriyadasji Swamishree Maharaj, and sixth in the lineage of ascetic Acharyas, which descends directly from Lord Shree Swaminarayan.
