Sports are useful in order to strengthen your physical body and develop a sense of enthusiasm amongst players and supporters – Acharya Swamishree Maharaj

Swamibapa Football Club,  part of Shree Muktajeevan Sports Academy, took part in the annual SKLPC 5-a-side football tournament on Sunday 5th July 2015.

A total of 56 teams entered the tournament across 4 categories with Swamibapa Football Club having 3 teams participating in the Under 16s and Under 11s , with their youngest player Aditya at just 6 years old.

After playing some tough group games and facing some very fierce competition, Swamibapa FC had reached the semi-finals in both the under 16 and under 11 categories. They had parents, coaches, Swamibapa FC alumni and other members of the community cheering at the top of their voices and shouting words of encouragement from the sideline.

The under 11s lost in the semi-finals, but came away having had a great experience and for some of them their first taste of competitive football.

The under 16s took their game to extra time and penalties; it was a nail biting penalty shootout, only just clinched by the opposition. Whilst the teams didn’t take home the winning trophy, they left with their heads held very high and their top scorer Jignesh Khimani picking up the coveted under 16s ‘Player of the Tournament’ trophy.

The teams will train throughout the course of the year and will be ready to fight for the tournament trophy once again next year.
