Sunday 23rd March 2014
Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury continued its highly successful relationship with Sport Relief by backing the 2014 Sport Relief campaign more strongly than ever before. The Mandir’s efforts contributed to the colossal £54m already raised by this year’s campaign. The Mandir both hosted over a hundred runners at the local Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in Church Lane Playing Fields and our very own Shree Muktajeevan Pipe Band and Dhol Academy led the exciting array of entertainment at the flagship Mile event at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Once the figures are from Sunday’s run, we hope to break the £40,000 mark, raised for Sport Relief through hosting local Sport Relief Mile events, initially at Golders Green but now at Kingsbury. In the lead up to Kingsbury Mandir Grand Opening festival taking place in August 2014, we aim to inspire locals in Kingsbury to take part in a range of charity efforts – the first of which was the Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury Mile, the next being a blood donation session on Sunday 13th April
Acharya Swamishree Maharaj teaches us that “Dedicating one's life to the service of others is the truest celebration of a festival” and so in celebration of the Grand Opening of our new home, we should sign up and encourages others to sign up to one of the fantastic charitable activities that include sky diving, swimathon in Lake Windermere, a local bike ride, or simply by giving blood on 13th April and during the August festival.
