Twenty Four Hour Dhoon
Through the divine inspiration of Lord SwaminarayanbapaSwamibapa and Acharya Swamishree, the disciples of Shree Swaminarayan Temple London took part in a 24-hour Akhand (continuous) Dhoon. This was the first time that the London sabha had held such an event and so fittingly, this was the first in a series of events under the banner of ‘Farewell to Golders Green’ as the Temple relocates to its new home in Kingsbury shortly.
Proceedings kicked off with a full sabha to initiate the Dhoon - a schedule throughout the 24 hour period had been established to enable everyone to take part. 37 individuals made the remarkable pledge to attend the full 24 hour duration of the dhoon - through the grace of God, they succeeded. People of all ages filled the Temple, all eager to please the Lord by taking part in this unique event. The London Temple plays host to a variety of activities, from sports and dance, to catering and general maintenance and upkeep of the Temple - every activity and every group had its moment to shine within the schedule; every department was keen to add its unique twist to the celebrations:
Throughout the Akhand Dhoon, disciples took the opportunity to donate monetary gifts to the Lord - a token of their appreciation for having been given the chance to experience this unique darshan. As the Temple filled to the brim for the final leg of the dhoon, the music and chanting build to an incredible crescendo, ending with confetti canons, waving flags, chiming cymbals and rapturous applause.
As the atmosphere calmed, everyone took their seats and listened attentively to the divine ashirwad of Acharya Swamishree that He had recorded and sent especially for this occasion. This unforgettable event concluded with everyone receiving Prasad dinner.
