This year the Hindola Festival took place from Sunday 2nd August 2015 (Samvat 2071 Ashadh Vad 2) to Monday 31st August (Shravan Vad 2). The month-long festival brought out the best of the community’s creative talents, especially from the youngsters, as their devotion for the Lord was personified by some wonderful artistry and craftsmanship.
Literally translated, a hindolo is a swing. Perhaps some of the earliest and fondest memories of every child are of being gently rocked to sleep in their cradle (paaranyoo). At Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury, the amazing creative talents of the congregation were showcased as disciples created magnificent and ornate hindola to please Lord Swaminaryanbapa Swamibapa and Acharya Swamishree Maharaj.
Creations included London’s iconic Tower Bridge as part of a transport themed Hindolo, made from toy cars and aeroplanes. A jungle scene was brought to vivid life using from mosaic and glitter. A sweet hut made from childhood favourite treats was a particular high for its meticulous details. Both adults and children alike got involved in the creative activities and their handiwork inspired aww in all who visited the Mandir.
The annual Hindola Festival provides an opportunity for each disciple to become engrossed in the Lord's Murti. As they stood in front of the hindolo, gently swinging the Lord, they experienced the divine darshan of the enchanting Lord and became immersed into His lustrous Murti.
