Maninagar Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan run Shree Swaminarayan Temple in London held a Community Event on Sunday 28 December 2008 at its newly purchased premises in Kingsbury. The event was a fantastic success with well over a thousand people, from all cultures and communities, packing the venue for a fun-filled day.
Inspired by the worldwide spiritual leader of Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan, Acharya Swamishree Purushottampriyadasji Maharaj, the special event was held in the spirit of community integration. Specially invited to the event were the neighbours of the Temple and local schools, who supported and participated in the event, as did the local police and fire brigade.
The event was an interactive showcase of Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan’s charitable, cultural, educational and sporting activities. Also held were fun and games for kids of all ages as well as workshops in Indian classical dance, music and sports for all the family – all run by professional teachers and qualified coaches. The warehouse that housed the event was converted into a winter wonderland, making the ambience appropriate to mark the start of the new year.
The finale to the event by the Temple’s own Shree Muktajeevan Pipe Band was a rendition of music from Scottish bagpipes fused with Indian dhol drums, perfectly capturing the event’s spirit of integration. Local Councillor Kanta Mistry, one of several local councillors and community leaders present, exclaimed, “What an apt example of community and cultural integration. I hope the Band become a regular part of our community’s events!” Many of the neighbouring residents were present and expressed their delight about these premises being utilised by an Organisation that holds events such as this.
