The Hindola Festival

Updated 13th Aug 2016.

The Hindola Festival runs from Thursday 21st July to Sunday 14th August. Throughout this period, visitors to Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury will be able to see Lord Shree Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa presiding on a variety of intricately decorated swings – each one meticulously crafted by the talented disciples of the community.

Keep up to date with when you can experience the latest Hindola Darshan and view the Hindola that have already been using the sidebar on this page.

At the major Mandirs of Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan in India, it is traditional to see an evening of Bhakti Sangeet to celebrate the Hindola Festival. For the first time in the UK, this tradition was experienced at Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury on Saturday 6th August. The evening was performed by the renowned Haridan Ghadvi, supported by the Mandir’s very own Swamibapa Orchestra.

Literally translated, a hindolo is a swing. Traditionally, babies and young children are swayed from swings. These early childhood days are considered some of the most formative and important. One can imagine the love, adoration and attention a baby would receive whilst swaying in such a swing.

The Hindola Festival is an opportunity for each disciple to become engrossed in the Lord's Murti in this way. This devotion begins with the creation of the ornate Hindolas themselves, often taking weeks and months to prepare the intricate, ornate and elaborate swings – all lovingly prepared by the Mandir community.
