Twenty Four Hour Dhoon
Accepting the prayers of His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree Maharaj in 1982, the supreme Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa came to preside in Golders Green Temple. For the past 31 years, the Lord has imparted us all with His divine, enchanting bliss from this home; and the time for the Lord to relocate to His new home in Kingsbury is fast approaching.

Starting on Saturday 15 June at 6.30 pm, the disciples of the London Temple will please Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa and His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree by taking part in a 24 hour ‘dhoon’. Whilst chanting the sacred name of the almighty Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa, the disciples will remember the joyous memories that the Lord has bestowed whilst presiding in Golders Green.

It is the first time that the London congregation has performed a 24 hour ‘dhoon’. Such an event is held each year in Maninagardham on the manifestation days of Lord Shree Swaminarayan and Jeevanpran Shree Abji Bapashree. It is fitting that such an event is held to commence the congregation’s ‘Farewell to Golders Green’ and ‘Welcoming to Kingsbury’ celebrations.

Some disciples have pledged to take part in the ‘dhoon’ for the entire 24 hours. For most, time slots have been allocated according to the schedule given below. This is a wonderful opportunity for literally everyone to join in, young and old. Please encourage everyone to attend their allocated time slots and ‘thank’ the Lord for the unsurpassed joy and blessings that He has given us for the past 31 years from Golders Green Temple.

Sacred Swaminarayan Name
Lord Shree Swaminarayan has stated extensively the glory of the sacred ‘Swaminarayan’ name in the devotional poem ‘Je Swaminarayan Nam Leshe’. He states, ‘The sins of whoever utters the name ‘Swaminarayan’ will be burnt away. The Lord is referred to by many names in various scriptures, but this is the supreme name of the Lord. Reciting the name Swaminarayan just once, is equivalent to reciting the names of deities or incarnations a thousand times. The fruits attained by the mere utterance of this name are indescribable. If this mantra is heard at the last moments of one’s life, even a sinful person attains salvation. This mantra dispels evil spirits and enlightens true wisdom.’

Therefore, chanting the name of the supreme Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa yields innumerable benefits. When this chanting is performed in the Temple before the Lord, the benefits are multiplied. Dhoon In Loya Section Chapter 6 of the Vachanamrut scripture, Lord Shree Swaminarayan states that when meditating on the Lord, if numerous nasty thoughts arise such vile thoughts are eradicated by performing ‘dhoon’. The Lord states that without being embarrassed, you should loudly chant ‘Swaminarayan, Swaminarayan’ to the accompaniment of clapping. Then, all the nasty thoughts subside and peace prevails. Other than this, there are no other ways to eliminate the vicious thoughts. The devotional ritual of performing ‘dhoon’ is an extremely powerful mode of concentrating one’s mind and focussing on the Lord.
