Shree Muktajeevan Arts & Culture Academy at Shree Swaminarayan Temple London aims to promote and teach the following activities:

Shree Muktajeevan Music Academy

The musical academy runs tabla and harmonium classes for boys and girls in the age group 7 – 30. A highly talented young musician takes the tabla classes and the emphasis is placed on learning from the very basics to an intricate combination of beats and rhythm.

There are approximately 15 students in the tabla classes and 15 in the harmonium classes. The harmonium class students are taught to sing and play classical raags and traditional folk and bhajans as well as compose their own music. They are also taught to sing shastriya sangeet where the emphasis is placed on the manipulation of the musical scale. The academy students have given public performances at various times including the Barnet Borough Black and Asian Music Festival, West London Asian Music Week Festival and on numerous occasions in the Shree Swaminarayan Temple. They have also participated in various schools’ International Evenings.

Shree Mukta Orchestra

The Shree Mukta Orchestra consist of about 15 very talented musicians and singers. They play such wide and varied range of instruments like the keyboard, electric synthesiser, electric drums, Indian dholls, sitar, tablas, flute Indian veena (violin like instrument) and a range of percussions. The singers in the orchestra are able to sing traditional Indian songs as well Indian bhajans. The members of the orchestra have given live performances in India, the USA as well as in London in front of an audience of up to 5000.


The Academy also caters for students wishing to learn various forms of dancing. These include Bharat Nrutyum, Indian Dandia Dance, Folk Dance and the Bollywood style dance. There are approximately 50 students boys and girls ranging in ages from 5 to 25 years. The dance students have given public performances in USA, India and London as well as at the Brent Town Hall in from of thousands of people.

The Arts

As well as catering for the musical side of the Arts, the Academy caters for the artistic side of the Arts. These include various types of rangoli making (Indian Art of Painting), making all the delicate and colourful dresses and uniforms needed for the performing artists, heena hand painting, face painting and carrying out from conception to reality of the temple internal decorations. The Academy also caters for budding actors in the form of a Drama Society.

Baal Sabha

The Academy is hoping to start sessions of Bal Sabha for the younger generation in order for them to try and understand the Swaminarayan Philosophy and the Kaaran Satsang. The sessions will provide reading and reciting our Holy Scriptures and discussing Swaminarayan Gadi spiritual Heritage.
