Inspirator: His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree Purushottampriyadasji Maharaj
Madhapur Mahotsav - Day 1
Home Prelude Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5

To commence the five day festival, a procession was held from the Temple to where the assembly was being held, in the vast grounds of Madhapur High School. Acharya Swamishree presided on a magnificent chariot and gave darshan to all the sants and disciples. On this occasion, all the disciples had been given the same kinds of clothing to wear. Hence, the whole procession looked wonderfully uniform and ordered.

Acharya Swamishree performed the initiation of the scripture recitals. The scholarly sants then narrated the scriptures and further explained the teachings of the almighty Lord Shree Swaminarayan. Acharya Swamishree then bestowed divine blessings to all, during which He said:

  • In the lead-up to our Guru’s Shatabdi (centenary) celebrations, we have continuously held magnificent and grand festivals: In Maninagar, Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa now bestows His divine darshan from a sinhasan made of pure gold; thereafter there were a series of scripture recitals throughout Kutch. It is everyone’s wish to have the darshan of these Mahotsavs, but not everyone is able to attend. Let us pray to the Lord to keep all those sants who have remained in the Lord’s service, and disciples residing all over the world, with us during these auspicious occasions.

  • Today, in Maninagar, the Lord bestows His divine darshan adorned in garments made of chandan; the darshan we have here today is as soothing to the mind as that chandan, as is listening to scripture recitals, such as those of the Vachanamrut and Shree Swaminarayan Gadi scriptures taking place here.

  • The Rahasyarth Pradeepika Tika sah Vachanamrut scripture, which is being recited here today, clearly explicates the supremacy of the Lord. Jeevanpran Swamibapa has written in His kirtan, “Of all the scriptures in the world, the Vachanamrut reigns supreme; for the salvation of souls, it is the ultimate means.”

  • Many say that Lord Shree Swaminarayan became God by performing many austerities. However, Jeevanpran Swamibapa has explained that no-one becomes God by performing austerities; in fact, the Lord only performed such austerities for seven years. Many sages have performed these for many more year yet none of them have become God. This is because they are merely souls.

  • There are three categories: Jeevatma, Mahatma and Paramatma. Those who behave under the influence of Maya are called Jeevatma; those who are free from Maya are called Mahatma; the Paramatma controls Maya. By worshipping Lord Swaminarayan, one can elevate from the status of Jeevatma to Mahatma, but only the Lord Himself, i.e. the Paramatma, can control Maya.

  • It is stated in the Vachanamrut that by worshipping the Lord, innumerable souls have attained the same qualities as God, but no-one has become God. Such a supreme Lord has mercifully manifested on this Earth for our betterment.

  • Such an almighty God is present at Shree Swaminarayan Gadi, as is bestowing His unsurpassed divine bliss to all those who faithfully seek His shelter.

During the evening, a concert of devotional singing was performed by Swamibapa’s sants and other leading artists, including Sanjay Omkar from Mumbai. The sound of devotional music reverberated throughout the village of Madhapur and encouraged all the villagers to gather in the school grounds to take part in the communal dance.
