Shangar Darshan

Mangla Aarti

Inside the temple devotees gathered from all over the world to have the divine darshan of the Lord during Mangla aarti on the first day of the Mahotsav.

At precisely 5:30am the sinhasan doors opened to reveal the divine darshan of Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa. Everyone present had the darshan of His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree performing aarti.

The Lord gave darshan adorned with His night clothing: a maroon cap; peach tunic, and pink trousers.

Opening of the Golden Sinhasan

Haribhakto's waited eagerly outside the temple and in the sabha mandap in anticipation of the opening of the divine darshan of the Golden Sinhasan.

At 7:10am, Shree Muktajeevan Pipe Band saluted His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree and led Him up the stairs of Maninagar Mandir. At the top, He gave darshan to His beloved disciples. They were blessed with this divine darshan, but didn't know what was about to happen next.

Acharya Swamishree performed the opening ceremony by opening the silver gates with a golden key and then doors to the golden sinhasan.

The beloved sants perform a devotional dance to the especially composed kirtan, 'Shubh ghadi avi…'

For the first time in the history of Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan, the beloved sants performed a bhakti dance inside the mandir on this auspicious occasion - "Shubh ghadi avi". Pleased with their bhakti Acharya Swamishree joined them. The atmosphere in the temple was electric. "Once more" was requested and it was granted. So once more they danced.

Swagat Yatra

Hundreds of devotees eagerly awaited the arrival of Acharya Swamishree. After performing darshan in the Tower, Acharya Swamishree graced the beautifully decorated chariot, which was meticulously decorated with items for offering poojan to Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa and Acharya Swamishree.

Divine Morning Ashirwad

  • Today, we have all gathered here to celebrate the “Sarvopari Shree Swaminarayan Bhagwan Dvi-shat Rajat (225) Mahotsav.” We are also celebrating the 225th anniversary of Shree Gopalanand Swamibapa’s manifestation. The supreme Murtis of Lord Shree Swaminarayan – Shree Ghanshyam Maharaj, Harikrishna Maharaj, Sahajanand Swami Maharaj, Jeevanpran Bapashree and our beloved Guru – Jeevanpran Swamibapa, are bestowing their divine darshan from a sinhasan made of pure gold. And we are of course continuing the Centenary (Shatabdi) celebrations of Jeevanpran Swamibapa. In this manner, we are celebrating four occasions simultaneously.

  • The gold sinhasan shines of the immense efforts of sants and disciples. This magnificent shrine has not been created by merely thinking about constructing it – disciples have donated gold; carpenters have intricately carved the wood; gold sheets have been painstakingly forged and applied; and polishers have tirelessly shined the entire sinhasan. All these efforts are the due to the devotion of the sants, only then are we able to have this superlative darshan. Months of preparation have been made in order for us to have the darshan of this magnificent mahotsav.

  • On this auspicious occasion, the divine words of the Lord in the form of the Vachanamrut, are being recited. Jeevanpran Bapashree has stated that he has created the Rahasyarth Pradeepika Tika in order to elucidate the true nature of the Lord. No scripture can be understood without explication from a sat-purush. Created by Jeevanpran Bapashree, this Tika serves as such a sat-purush.

  • Jeevanpran Bapashree has stated that bliss lies in one’s understanding. When such understanding was being expelled from society, Lord Shree Swaminarayan manifested. At that time, Gujarat was drowning in blind and flase faiths: widows were burnt alive on their husband’s funeral pyres; newly born daughters were drowned in milk (piti); and women were killed if suspected of witchcraft. Lord Swaminarayan manifested in these time and abolished practices such as piti. He established the status of sankhya-yogi (ascetic women) for the salvation of women, so that they may worship in peace. In this and many other ways, the Lord began cleansing society.

  • When one’s inclination is pure, he makes efforts to please the Lord; however, when his inclination changes, an arrogance in his own abilities develops. Consider the example of the sadhu named Kidisakhi. He was a renowned singer and musician, but he was arrogant about his own abilities. On one occasion he thought to himself, ‘if I sing in front of a king, he will become pleased me and give me several villages and I will be content.’ This thought deepened in him. When the Lord asked why he was so deep in thought, he said it was nothing. In this manner, he lost the sentiments he had for God, through his own arrogance. The Lord showed mercy on him and instructed him to renounce his desires, but he did not adhere. One of Kidisakhi’s fingers became lame so he was unable to play instruments. His nasal passages became blocked so he was unable to sing. In this manner, by not abiding by God’s will, he endured such difficult times. On one occasion after the Lord returned to His abode, Kidisakhi stopped Shree Gopalanad Swami as he was on his way to Varodra. He begged Gopalbapa for forgiveness and pleaded for his mercy. Gopalbapa showed compassion towards him and brought him back to the temple in order to look after him.

  • Let us pray to the Lord that we forever stay under His command, and that our inclination, which He has made pure, never wavers from Him.

Evening Ashirwad

  • The Lord has stated in Gadhada First Section, Vachanamrut 72, that if a disciple of the Lord has true faith along with an understanding of His glory, and similarly understands the glory of sants and disciples, not even difficult circumstances can afflict him – he is forever blissful. Someone whose faith is flawed cannot be redeemed even if God Himself wishes it.

  • There was a family of three; a wife, husband and their son. The father had a particularly strong conviction for God but his wife was not so devout. Their son became extremely feverish and his condition did not improve after several days. The mother told the husband to go to Baba Fakir to fetch some apparently sacred thread. The husband replied, ‘there is no need for this. Simply recite the name of Lord Swaminarayan.’ The wife retorted that he was refusing to go because he didn’t want the son, so he had no choice but to go. He walked a few yards and pulled out several threads from his own trousers before returning. He said to his wife, ‘here, these threads are from Baba.’ She tied the threads to the son and he was cured the next day. She boasted to her husband and taunted him for not wanting to initially go to get the threads. The husband then explained that in fact the threads were from his own trousers and not from Baba Fakir. If disciples, such as the husband in this example, are able to cure illnesses using merely the threads of their trousers, what is there is say about the power of who they worship – Lord Shree Swaminarayan?

  • In Karyani section, Vachanamrut 10, the Lord has stated that there is no greater sinner than someone who does not consider God to be the cause of everything. His sins are greater than those incurred by killing a cow, killing a Brahmin, or betraying an eminent Sadguru. One should not even stand in the shadow cast but such a grave sinner, nor should one ever listen to his words.

  • Everything occurs by the will of God, but not due to Kaal, Karma or Maya. One should understand God in this manner – this is the route to ultimate salvation.

Comments of the Day

"Today's darshan of our Ghanshyam Maharaj sat on His divine throne, in the Golden Sinhasan has bought tears of joy to my eyes. I feel really lucky and blessed to be here today. I feel that he has pulled me to Him today, just so that I could experience this divine laabh. Everyone around me is saying that today has also been emotional for them."

"I was not intending to attend this Mahotsav because of various commitments in my life, but with the blessing of Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa, I am here. Today, whilst listening to Acharya Swamishree's ashirwad, I realised that it was Him who opened all the doors for me, and allowed me to be here today. Thank You Swaminarayanbapa, Swamibapa."
