He who enlightens the ignorant, i.e. shines light to those in darkness, is called a Guru. It is only Lord SwaminarayanBapa Swamibapa that can enlighten us ignorant souls to the supreme bliss of eternal happiness, the endless peace of the supreme Lord. Thus our supreme Guru can only be Lord SwaminarayanBapa Swamibapa.
Friday 15th July 2011 marked Ashadh Sud Poonam, Gurupoonam, a day dedicated to one’s Guru. His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree held the Gurupoonam celebrations at Shree Swaminarayan Temple, Bolton and fulfilled the humble prayers of UK disciples of Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan.
Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Pipe Band led Acharya Swaminshree and Gurudev Jeevanpran Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa, seated on a decorated palanquin, into the Temple and saluted them. Acharya Swamishree then performed poojan to Jeevanpran Swamibapa, and adorned Him with beautiful flower garments and garlands, before performing Panchamrut snan (ceremonial bathing with five nectars) at the Lords feet.
Acharya Swamishree and Sants performed aarti to Jeevanpran Swamibapa and the Gurupoornima Kirtan was recited. Acharya Swamishree then bestowed His divine blessings during which He explained the significance of this day and explicated the importance of attaining the true Guru, Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa and remaining obedient to His commands.
Everyone then had the privilege of performing aarti and poojan to Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa and Acharya Swamishree before receiving prasad (consecrated offering) from Acharya Swamishree to complete the special day’s ceremonies.
