All our work is carried out by the devoted Sants (monks) of Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan and volunteers. The whole relief effort is being coordinated by His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree Himself. In this way, the official bureaucracy is bypassed and so the help can be targeted precisely where and when it is required.
A team of 50 Sants, the Sanstha's doctors and a large group of volunteers were sent from Maninagar together with a convoy of 25 trucks, loaded with medical supplies.
Nearly £200,000 from the US, London, and Bolton Temples has been collected already and money is still pouring in. From the proceeds collected in the Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Earthquake Relief Fund the Organisation in Kutch has set up shelter camps where the homeless are housed, fed and given medical assistance. Food, both cooked and uncooked is being distributed throughout the region. Hospitals are being supplied with meals for the patients and staff. Tents, blankets and
clothing have already been given out to those who were left homeless. Clean drinking water is constantly being distributed.
Makeshift camps were erected in the vast grounds of Shree Swaminarayan Mandir, Maninagar, where people are still being housed. Over 10000 people are fed here each day.
Soon after the earthquake, blood donation centres were set up in many of the Temples around the country and the blood sent to the affected region. Our Sants and haribhakto were involved in clearing the roads of rubble to allow the passage of supplies and cremating the dead bodies which they encountered whilst they did this.
A team of Sants and haribhakto has scouted the remotest regions of Kutch to identify exactly where the help was most needed. The aid is being concentrated in these areas first.
