On 26th November 2004, Acharya Swamishree presented a charity cheque to the family of the three year old Mahesh Kambhani.

On 26th November 2004, Acharya Swamishree held a special meeting at Shree Swaminarayan Temple, Mahalaxmi, Mumbai, during which a charity cheque was presented to the family of the three year old Mahesh Kambhani, who was savagely attacked last month.

The sad story of Mahesh was recently covered in the news. On 12th October 2004, Mahesh was found in a grassy stretch of his village, Ugamedi, in the Bhavnagar district of Gujarat. His eyes had been damaged with a sharp instrument, he had a hole in his forehead, injured testicles and a deep scar in his stomach. His parents reported the incident to the police. However, the story hit prime news when a young girl from Mumbai, Crystal Valladares intervened. She read about the atrocities perpetrated on the boy in a local paper and appealed to President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam for help. The President’s office subsequently contacted Dr S Natrajan, an ophthalmologist based at the Aditya Jyot Hospital, Dadar, Mumbai, asking him to attend to this case. Mahesh was flown to Mumbai where Dr Natrajan agreed to treat the boy free.

The merciful Acharya Swamishree was deeply saddened by the story of this poor, innocent child, which is believed to have been performed as part of a witchcraft ceremony. In order to provide further medical treatment to Mahesh, Acharya Swamishree presented his father with a cheque. By the command of Acharya Swamishree, Ms Crystal Valladares was also commended by Shree Anandjibhai Shah for her initiative, which saved Mahesh’s life.
