On 29th January 2005, His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree granted the sants and devotees of Vadodara the opportunity of experiencing the Shakottsav celebrations.

In Samvat 1878, Maha sud 7, Lord Shree Swaminarayan called all the sants and devotees to the village of Loya and held a festival – the Shakottsav. Lord Swaminarayan Himself prepared the meal of vegetable curry – Shak using 1200 kg of aubergines and 2800kg of ghee. Lord Swaminarayan then served the meal to all the sants and devotees. Other delicious dishes were also prepared. However, Lord Swaminarayan had instilled such a taste into the aubergine shak, that no-one ate any of the other foods. Instead, they all repeatedly asked for more and more of the aubergine shak. Everyone was of the impression that they had never before tasted anything so delicious. They realised that it was the Lord’s own resolute wish to make this dish of aubergines and therefore, the taste that they were enjoying must also be divine.

During the evening of Saturday 29th January 2005, His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree granted the sants and devotees of Vadodara the opportunity of experiencing for themselves, the Shakottsav celebrated by Lord Swaminarayan in Loya.

A magnificent array of food was arranged before the Lord in the form of an annakut. The entire Temple hall was decorated with garlands of flowers and leaves.

Acharya Swamishree Himself took part in the preparation of the meal. When Acharya Swamishree was stirring the aubergine shak, everyone recalled the episode in Loya when Lord Swaminarayan prepared the meal of aubergines.

Acharya Swamishree then offered the thar to the Lord. He then served the sants and devotees with this divine prasad.
