Kartik Sud 5 is the final festival of the Diwali period and is known as Labh Pancham. Labh means benefit and Pancham means fifth. Usually, businesses shut down for the Diwali period and this day is considered to be auspicious for commencing one’s businesses again.

In the days from Diwali to Labh Pancham, it is traditional for people to visit friends and relatives, and to renew good relations amongst them all. Sweets and other gifts are exchanged as a symbolic gesture of sweetening one’s relations with one another.

This year, Labh Pancham fell on Sunday 6th November. In Maninagar, this festival is always celebrated in Shree Swaminarayan Tower.

After performing the Shanghar aarti, Acharya Swamishree led a procession to Shree Swaminarayan Tower, where scriptural recitals were held. Acharya Swamishree then blessed the sants and disciples gathered. He said, “For the people of the world, labh, benefiting refers to amassing material riches. However, for the disciples of the Lord, the greatest benefit is that can be attained is the divine shelter of the supreme Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa. A true beneficiary and a truly victorious person is someone who has installed the Lord in his heart.

“Diwali, the festival of lights, is when one lights lamps and more importantly, one attains inner enlightenment. The period of Diwali and the New Year is the time to eradicate one's inner darkness, by renouncing one’s internal enemies of lust, greed, anger, jealousy etc. and any addictions and bad habits. The New Year is the time to ask the Lord for forgiveness for the sins of the past year and to start afresh. Remain vigilant to adhere to the wishes of the Lord; and then, the merciful Lord will remain showering His grace.”
