On Tuesday 11th November 2003, His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree inaugurated a 10 day long Rural Development Camp in the Lilapur Village district of Ahmedabad.

This Camp was organised by the National Service Scheme (NSS) and Shree Swaminarayan Arts College, under the auspices of Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan, Jeevanpran Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa first inspired Shree Swaminarayan Arts College to hold such events over 30 years ago. Acharya Swamishree has continued to encourage the College to hold such events.

Dr Rizwan Kadri, a senior professor of our Arts College, had undertaken the responsibility of ensuring the smooth running of this charitable function.

During the 10 days, blood tests, general diagnostic tests, eye cataract operations, vaccinations, and general health checks were performed free of charge. Free medication was provided to all the patients. People from the rural villages, of all ages, who are unable to afford these vital medical treatments, were provided the opportunity to have a better state of health.

In addition, multi-media awareness workshops were held to inform the rural inhabitants of issues such as the eradication of pollution, refraining from the use of drugs, village cleanliness, the advantages of education for people of all ages, etc.

After the inauguration ceremony at Lilapur, Acharya Swamishree travelled to many of the villages in the region. A special program was held in the village of Jaspur , where a special educational program had been held by Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan and the Jaspur Kadvani Mandal. On behalf of our Sanstha, Acharya Swamishree distributed education material free of charge to the students of the regions main school, the A.K. Patel High School.

On 12th November 2003, a Drug Eradication Rally was held in the village of Jaspur. Acharya Swamishree led the procession, which was aimed to raise the awareness of the dangers of drugs and vices.

At the end of the rally, a public assembly was held in the village square. The Speaker of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, Professor Shree Mangalbhai Patel was present as the chief guest of this function.

In the presence of Professor Mangalbhai Patel, His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree distributed charitable funds as donations, to many of the regions needy causes. Beneficiaries included the Adarsh High School Kadi, Jaspur Kadvani Mandal, and Shree Radha Krishna Temple Jaspur.

In his speech, the Speaker, Shree Mangalbhai Patel said that he was extremely delighted to know that Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan, a religious institution, has been so active in serving society through the donating of such large funds and by encouraging educational and cultural activities. He commended Acharya Swamishree for inspiring such beneficial events, which are so necessary for the advancement of society. He acclaimed Acharya Swamishree to be an inspirer to the entire world.

Acharya Swamishree blessed all those present in which He said that we all need to stop just talking, and start actively making the effort to serve society. He said, "All our good intentions are pointless if we do nothing to make them become real. Our preaching must be put into practice, and we must serve humanity and aid the underprivileged till the end of our lives."

At the end of the program, mahaprasad was distributed to all the gathered congregation.
