In the Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Granth, our beloved Jeevanpran Swamibapa
narrates the story of when Bapashree led a group of 600 pilgrims to Jetalpur
in the year Samvat 1942. At the time, the last of the "nand"
status sants, Sadguru Shree Dhruvanand Swami was still alive. The supreme
Lord Swaminarayan gave His divine darshan to Shree Dhruvanand Swami and
took him to Akshardham. At that very moment, a shower of chandan (sandalwood)
fell upon the ground. The group of pilgrims was all witness to this miraculous
event. Many of them gathered the chandan and formed it into tablets to
keep as reminders of the miracle.
The same sorts of miraculous events still occur at Shree Swaminarayan
Gadi, because it is here that the supreme Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa
is ever-present, and it is through our beloved Acharya Swamishree that
the Lord gives darshan today.
In the afternoon of Monday 24th January 2000 between 3 and 4 oclock,
a group of our sants went to the Smruti Mandir for darshan. They were
then witness to a miraculous event. A shower of chandan (Chandan Vrushti)
fell upon the Smruti Mandir and on its vast grounds. The air was filled
with a sweet fragrance. Droplets of yellow chandan were spotted everywhere
within the Smruti Mandir compound only. There were none outside the Mandir
compound. Hearing of this event, crowds of other people soon gathered
and they all started gathering the chandan.
And this occurred not once but twice. The following morning on Tuesday
25th between the hours of 9 and 10, a similar shower of chandan fell once
again upon the Smruti Mandir. This time the shower only extended out to
the pradikshna around the Smruti Mandir and was more concentrated on the
eastern side of the magnificent Mandir.
This has been reported in the independent press. Photographs taken immediatley
after the chandan vrusti are shown below. The yellowish chandan drops
can clearly be seen on leaves and walls.
