Cricketing Great, Gordon Greenidge, visits Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury

On Friday the 25th of September, world famous cricketer Gordon Greenidge MBE visited Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury. This follows a line of cricketing greats to have visited the state-of-the-art indoor sporting and community facilities at the Hindu temple.

Mr Greenidge, along with the great Desmond Haynes formed one of the most formidable opening partnerships in cricketing history and was instrumental to the success of the great West Indian Cricket Teams of the 70s, 80s and 90s. Mr Greenidge stands alongside legends of West Indies cricket such as Sir Vivian Richards, Michael Holding, Joel Garner and Malcom Marshall.

His visit to Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury comes in a long line of famous cricketers that have visited the Mandir recently; senior members of the Kenyan Cricket Team including Steve Tikolo and Maurice Ouma visited in late June and living legend Clive Lloyd CBE toured the facilities in October. Shree Swaminarayan Mandir has proved to be a local cricketing landmark in addition to being the world’s first eco-temple due to its environmental design. The new facilities are used by Swamibapa Cricket Club - named after the founding father of the organisation, Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa - to encourage young and aspiring cricketers to develop their talents.

The Mandir’s global spiritual leader, Acharya Swamishree Maharaj, encourages His disciples to take care of their physical and mental health as a means of enabling devotion to God, and as such the new facilities at Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Complex host a vast array of sporting and health and wellbeing activities, as well as many other educational, cultural and charitable activities. By inspiring the creation of these excellent facilities, which are open for use by the entire community, Acharya Swamishree Maharaj aims to inspire the community to pick up valuable life skills through taking part in these activities.
