Nidar Siddhatvadi Sadguru Shree Ishwarcharandasji Swami

Diwali of Samvat 1998 Aso Vad Amas (Sunday 8th November 1942)

On Sunday 8th November 1942 (Diwali) the leader of the Karan Satsang, Nidar Siddhantvadi Sadguru Shree Ishwarcharandasji Swami (Ishwarbapa) withdrew his human darshan at 11 P.M.

How could his loving devotees tolerate the grief of his departure? His departure left them all in sadness. However, he is always present amongst us. He does not take birth and die like ordinary human beings. Such religious understanding may relieve the pain of the sadness, but does not completely get rid of it.

A palanquin was prepared on New Year's Day (Samvat 1999 Kartik Sud 1, Monday 9 th November 1942). Jeevanpran Swamibapa bathed Sadguru Ishwarbapa, dressed him and tied a turban (paagh) on his head. When he began to fold his legs, Swamibapa's hand touched a bandage that was wrapped around Ishwarbapa's leg. Jeevanpran Swamibapa moved back in shock and thought, ‘it may have pained my beloved Sadguru Swamishree.' This shows that Jeevanpran Swamibapa still considered Ishwarbapa to be giving darshan.

In the morning, Jeevanpran Swamibapa and other sants carried the palanquin, on which Ishwarbapa was seated, on their shoulders. On the way, many of the sants and devotees started singing Kirtans and started to chant the “Swaminarayan” mantra. The procession finally reached the banks of River Sabarmati, where Jeevanpran Swamibapa bathed Ishwarbapa and performed the funeral ceremony.

After the funeral ceremony everyone went back to the temple and Swamibapa returned to Kadi that Night. His sorrow took the form of an illness, which started during the train journey to Kadi. He took a oath of silence and began to think about Ishwarbapa's divine episodes. Tears flowed from his lotus eyes. Whilst remembering Sadguru Swamishree's Murti, Jeevanpran Swamibapa began to pray to him in the form of a Kirtan that is sung to this day on Amas (the last day of the lunar month) in memory of Ishwarbapa and is as follows:

He Sadguruji! Jem kahesho tem karshu jodi hathji
Oh Sadguru! We will do as you command, with joined hands.

When Jeevanpran Swamibapa arrived in Kadi, he stopped drinking milk and minimised his diet due to the fact that his dearest had withdrawn his human darshan. He took on an illness in the form of a severe fever.

On the night of Labh Pancham (Kartik Sud 5), Jeevanpran Swamibapa was sleeping in Kadi temple. All of a sudden, the entire temple was filled with divine light. Amongst the divine light were divine sants who were all young, identical and charming in appearance and wore the same divine shiny clothing. Amongst the entire temple full of sants, the sant sitting on the first line directly opposite Swamibapa had a bandage on his leg. Swamibapa recognised that this was his guru, Ishwarbapa. Just then Ishwarbapa said, “Yes, I am showing you this bandage so that you can recognise me. When you were folding my legs you thought it would hurt me and you hesitated. But Look! It is nothing.” Saying this, he moved his hand over the bandage and it immediately disappeared. “This is how divine I am. Lord Swaminarayan, Jeevanpran Bapashree, I and all these sants are with you. You are not alone. Do not worry at all. I have not gone. I am always present. You have stopped drinking milk. However it is my command that you start taking it again” After saying these words, Ishwarbapa lovingly placed his hands over Jeevanpran Swamibapa's head and withdrew his darshan along with all the divine sants.

A recital of the Vachnamrut with the Rahasyarth Pradeepika Tika was held in Kadi for 7days in the memory of Sadguru Shree Ishwarcharandasji Swami by Jeevanpran Swamibapa who alone recited the scripture. After a short period, Jeevanpran Swamibapa allowed the fever to leave and according to Ishwarbapa's command, he started drinking milk again.
