The auspicious day that the supreme Lord Shree Swaminarayan chose for the inauguration of His sacred book of holy commandments, the Shikshapatri, was Vasant Panchmi, the official start of the Vasant – spring season. Lord Shree Swaminarayan distilled the teachings of 365 sacred Hindu scriptures and composed the Shikshapatri scripture, containing 212 verses. Lord Shree Swaminarayan says that if one wishes to remain contented in this life and thereafter, the commands of the Shikshapatri must be obeyed. Therefore, to bestow bliss to us all, for the benefit of all within this world, Lord Shree Swaminarayan presented the Shikshapatri on this day, exactly 195 years ago.

On Monday 15 February 2021, Acharya Swamiji Maharaj travelled to the village of Dharampur for the celebrations, where He was ceremonially welcomed by the villagers. That evening, the Sants and disciples took the opportunity of celebrating the Shakutsav festival in Acharya Swamiji Maharaj’s presence.

Shikshapatri Jayanti was celebrated on Tuesday 16 February 2021. This is also the Patotsav day of the Lord who presides in Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Dharampur. Acharya Swamiji Maharaj performed the Patotsav ceremony of the Lord, and then a recital of the Shikshapatri was performed by all the Sants and disciples. Poojan to the Shikshapatri was also performed.

Shikshapatri Jayanti celebrations were held in all the Mandirs of Maninagar Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan around the world. Where it was not possible to hold these recitals in person, the celebrations were held on-line.
