Swamibapa Pipe Band
Activities

Jeevanpran Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa showed His prowess as an incredibly talented poet and musician. He wrote numerous kirtans (devotional songs) and was extremely accomplished in playing a vast array of musical instruments, which included the sitar, clarinet, tabla, and harmonium. Devotion through music and singing, kirtan-bhakti, was very dear to him, and He encouraged His sants and disciples to learn these musical skills so they could please the Lord through this type of devotion. The study of music was so strongly urged by Jeevanpran Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa also because it requires commitment and dedication, skills crucial for the progression of all aspects in oneís life.

With the divine blessings of His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree, the disciples of Shree Swaminarayan Temple New Jersey established a pipe band, Shree Swamibapa Pipe Band, in 2003, to praise Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa through musical devotion, as it was extremely valued by Jeevanpran Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa. The 35 young members of the Indian-Scottish pipe band play the Scottish bagpipes and the snare, tenor, and base drums. More disciples are learning to play on the bagpipes, and they hope to be apart of the pipe band soon.

The bandís repertoire consists of bhajans, Indian melodies, Scottish music and newly composed music.

Shree Swamibapa Pipe Band performs at the temple to salute Acharya Swamishree and honored guests, the India Day Parade in New York City, and the World Gujarati Conference. The pipe band is aiming to go to the Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Shatabdi Mahotsav in October 2007.

All the members of Shree Swamibapa Pipe Band are dedicated to their service. Many of them also participate in other activities of the temple. They give up their time to attend weeknight and weekend practices so that they can improve their skills and talent each time they play for Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa and His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree. The pipe bandís only wish is to please them and attain their divine blessings.
