Ashadh sud Poonam, is observed as Gurupoonam. This is the auspicious day that a disciple goes to his Guru and pays respects, as a gesture for the innumerable deeds that the Guru has performed for the benefit of his disciple.
This year, the day of Gurupoonam was Saturday 12 July 2014. It was the first time that the special occasion was being celebrated on the site of Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Complex, Kingsbury. Furthermore, Acharya Swamishree Maharaj had sent five eminent Sants to be present, which made the celebrations immensely delightful.
After performing the sandhya aarti of Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa at Shree Abji Bapashree House, the divine Murti of Gurudev Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa was carried on a ceremonial palanquin. The parade was led by Shree Muktajeevan Pipe Band London to Purushottam Mahal, which Acharya Swamishree Maharaj had officially inaugurated 6 weeks earlier.
Sants and disciples performed poojan to Gurudev Swamibapa and then a robe and crown made of flowers was adorned upon Swamibapa's divine Murti. Disciples took this opportunity to perform aarti. A letter from Acharya Swamishree Maharaj blessing the London disciples on this joyous occasion was read to the assembly, and Sants spoke about the importance of a true Guru such as Jeevanpran Swamibapa and Acharya Swamishree Maharaj, for one's life to progress to the ideal. The divine blessings of Gurudev Jeevanpran Swamibapa, which he gave on the day of Gurupoonam celebrated in London in 1979, was also heard.
